Sketches of Myahk -blue asia-
The last musical frontier, Myahk a.k.a.Miyakojima is located 300km south of Okinawa. The musician and the traveller, Makoto Kubota finally met Miyako's musical tradition 30 years after he introduced Okinawan pops like Shokichi Kina's Haisai Ojisan to mainland Japan. Here is a good example of the work by Blue Asia's cool treatment on mixing roots music with lounge electronica. Based on Kubota's field recordings in Miyakojima and 70's rare recordings by Hatsuo Okuhara.

Ikemajima has the most spiritual vibes and people keep the tradition of their religion. Ikemajima born enka singer, Hatsuo Okuhara a.k.a. Kazuya Shima retuned home in mid- 70s to record the musical heritage of his home ground. The some songs are religious and ritual whereas  some are work songs and they all have magical  ancient touch,
